Did you know you can already make free mobile calls to Freephone numbers? Read on to find out more….
Ofcom have announced yesterday that, from June 2015, calls to Freephone numbers will be free from mobile phones in the UK. See this article from the Press Association.
At the moment, if you attempt to call an 0800 number from your mobile, you should receive a warning message from your operator to tell you that you will be charged for the “freephone” call. Mobile phone operators charge up to 41p per minute for these so-called Freephone numbers but it is nice of them to warn us before making such a call.
How do I make mobile freephone calls?
This only works if you get free minutes in your call plan. It works by dialling a National call rate number first that then diverts you to the Freephone number. So, if you do get free calls to national call rate numbers (who doesn’t these days!), then you will get free calls to Freephone numbers. If not, the number will at least be within your call plan minutes.
I would suggest you check what you get on your callplan!
0800 Buster is a free service, based in the UK, that offers us all this service for free! They make their money by receiving a small commission from handling these calls.
Simply dial one of their National call rate numbers, such as 01226 810800 (there are others – check their site for details). You will then be asked to dial the Freephone number you want to call and then press #. That’s it, you will be connected to the Freephone number as part of your callplan. They have instructions on their website on how to store your freephone numbers to automatically be routed through their network.
Retweet the word from their website to say thanks!
