11/02/2014My Google Nexus 5 screen cracked! I’ve only had it two months and it’s the first phone display I have ever broken.
It slipped off the bed onto a hard wooden floor. I bet you’ll know the feeling? I rushed to pick it up, examined it closely (admittedly with sleepy eyes) and decided it was undamaged. Phew!
However, I was driving home from work later that day. The phone sitting on the center console with the light shining on the display at an obtuse angle, and there it was. At first it just looked like a hair on the glass but, when it wouldn’t brush away, I realised with a gut-wrenching feeling that is was smashed. It had a crescent shaped crack on the top left just where the volume keys are. The glass was cracked right up to the edge of the display below the rocker, in towards the centre and around in a semi-circle back to the edge just above the rocker.
Later, another crack appeared. It started from where the first crack reached the edge of the display and went across the glass towards the speaker hole. It’s like a car windscreen – once a crack appears it just gets worse.
Luckily, we have gadget insurance and I have put a claim in for a repair. There’s a £25 excess but it’ll be worth it hopefully. I intended to take a picture of the damage but forgot in my rush to get it packaged up. They say they have a three day turn around so I’ll see how it goes.
So, have you ever cracked a screen? Has your Google Nexus 5 screen cracked? Is the Nexus 5 any more fragile than any other phone?
