Hey, have you got a mobile friendly website?
How does your site look on a smartphone screen? Does it look exactly the same as on a PC screen except tiny so you have to scroll around the webpage to see it all?
What happens when your customers visit your contact page? Do they have to copy your phone number to the clipboard, then switch to the dialler app, then paste the number down and press call? Or, do they just click on your number and automatically have their phone dial you? What happens to your contact form? Is half of it missing so that your customers can’t fill it in or does it readjust the text boxes so that they all fit in?
If your website is older than a year or two it probably won’t be a mobile friendly website.Try it out on a phone. If you don’t have one just try making your browser’s window very small to see what happens.
According to Google Analytics
- 23% of visitors to my website use a tablet computer
- 39% use a mobile phone
I can’t ignore the needs of half of my visitors. Can I?
Can you?
Mobilise the web
When you visit an adaptive webpage on a mobile phone the site should:
- automatically readjust itself to give the best view of the page;
- resize the pictures so they fit on the visible screen;
- adjust the flow of text so that it flows down the page within the width of the display;
- maybe show different widgets and different elements of the pages’ content that are more suited to a phone’s screen;
- have clickable telephone numbers;
- have the option to download your contact card in .vcf format to import straight into a smartphone;
- basically give your visitors the best possible experience so they don’t exit in frustration.
If your website does not do these things then you need to find a web designer who can re-develop it.
If you don’t, your customers will leave in frustration; they probably won’t return; they’re less likely to buy into what you’re offering; and they will go to your competitor! Google agree with me too.
Smartphones aren’t new but they are only just coming of age. People these days expect convenience and automation. They are using their mobile phones and their tablets to visit your website!
I’m interested to know how many of you have a mobile friendly website. Let me know in the comments.

Hey Garry,
You know I’m not a big cell phone user nor do I even own a tablet. Up until a few years ago I never even thought about about this although I kept hearing that more and more people were accessing the web via their mobile devices.
As soon as I started to hear this more I installed a plugin that would make my blog mobile ready so I know it looks find on a mobile device. I’ve checked it out myself and I’ve had friends check it out so at least I know that if they’re leaving my site after getting there it’s not because they can’t see it.
Great share and I sure would hope everyone has theirs set up for mobile devices as well. If you don’t then you’re losing some serious prospects.

Hello, Adrienne, there can’t be many people these days who aren’t regular mobile users and we need to remember they are all visiting our sites. Thanks for stopping by I appreciate the comments. Garry
